PROFESSIONAL ADVICE

If you have come to the conclusion you need professional advice or help from a firm such as Power Severance, be smart.

First, reach out to your network.  Do you know any lawyers, HR Managers, etc. you can trust and don’t mind confiding in? Get them on the phone and discuss the situation.  You will find them empathetic and willing to help.  Call in a few favors and see where that puts you.  They will help guide your efforts.  You need sound, experienced advice - not inexperienced opinions.

WHEN PROFESSIONAL ADVICE IS BEST
If you understand the paperwork and how it affects you, professional advice is most likely what you need. Unless you are planning on engaging a legal tactic in your strategy, a professional is probably best suited to help you strategize your case. After all, you will be negotiating on your behalf.

A professional should also let you know when they are out of their depth.

WHEN A PROFESSIONAL AND POSSIBLY AN ATTORNEY MAY BE BEST

  • You do not you fully understand all the documentation and terminology.

  • You do not fully understand the implications of signing the documents.

  • Are you unsure as to an appropriate value to the documentation?

  • The company treated you in a manner different than corporate policy requires.

POWER NOTE: LAWYERS ARE NOT NEGOTIATORS AND ARE INCENTIVIZED TO BILL TIME, NOT SOLVE YOUR SEVERANCE FOR MAXIMUM VALUE.
